Printmaker and illustrator Alexis Snell collaborated with Hainsworth to create three stunning, bespoke merino wool blankets. Inspired by her beautiful hand-carved lino prints, known for their characterful narratives, the blankets were widely celebrated for their originality and craft.
Born and raised in Yorkshire, Alexis moved to Cardiff to study printmaking, graduating with a degree in 2003. She went on to exhibit her work across Wales and Leeds, completing two artist residencies along the way. After a brief detour working as a cook, she relocated to London in the summer of 2011, bringing along her trusty second-hand printing press and reigniting her passion for printmaking. She has since returned to Yorkshire, where she now lives and works from her studio.
Some of Alexis’s most notable projects include a commissioned bronze cabinet of curiosities for the V&A Museum, illustrations for a Doctor Who book, various book covers, and her own picture book, The Bear in the Stars.
Alexis first contacted Hainsworth around 2021 with the idea of creating a range of blankets in her distinctive style. She worked closely with our Design and Product Development Manager, Andrea Noble, to develop three beautifully soft Merino Wool Blankets.
“I really enjoyed the experience, and I loved working with Andrea.I knew nothing about weaving and Andrea was amazing at explaining the weaving process. I was well informed about each stage of the project and learnt a lot!”
All three designs were beautifully realised and warmly received by customers. Widely appreciated for their craftsmanship and originality, they capture the essence of Alexis’s stunning hand-carved prints.
