Royal Donation for Local Charity

Hainsworth donated some of its colourful iconic cloth to local charity for those affected by sight loss.

The doeskin wool cloth was donated by Hainsworth and will be used in Henshaw’s Arts and Crafts Centre. Visually impaired art makers at the centre will use the cloth to make regal-themed products which will be sold to the public with all profits going back into the centre.

Art worker Jenna Foster specialises in royal-themed crafts and will use the fabric to make Prince William cards and collages to sell at the Knaresborough Centre.

The donation was organised by Leeds Fashion Works and Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber as part of Wool Week (September 5th-11th). The Campaign for Wool campaign initiated by HRH The Prince of Wales raises awareness of the use of wool both nationally and internationally.

Adam Hainsworth says: “The wool cloth is one of the country’s most iconic and instantly recognisable fabrics and visitors to the centre will now be able to buy their own piece of royal history. It will be fantastic to see what Jenna and the other art workers make with the fabric”.

Graduate Fashion Week Winner

Felix Chablux Smith used Hainsworth TITAN desert tan cloth for his BA Graduate Collection to produce this coat which won Best Menswear at Graduate Fashion Week.

Felix’s collection – KIN, is an exploration of family, lineage and genetics. His garments were built up from fragments of late-Victorian tailoring patterns, drafted from an original 2nd edition of Thorton’s Sectional System c.1895 with no modern patterns or blocks used, creating clothing with ancestry.

Hainsworth TITAN is traditionally used to protect over 50,000 fire fighters worldwide. It’s 200gsm breathable, comfortable outershell is designed to minimise the effects of heat stress whilst being robust enough to withstand the rigours of modern day fire fighting.

Felix has now graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and will begin his MA at Royal College of Art.

Christopher Raeburn visits the Hainsworth Mill

Christopher Raeburn, a British fashion designer who is known for creating ethically-aware men’s and womenswear collections visits Hainsworth to take a closer look at the iconic woollen fabrics manufactured on-site for his new A/W collection.

“A British textile company that carries every process in-house, from raw wool to finished cloth, is so rare to find. Hainsworth should be proud of what they are producing”.

Christopher’s collection was launched in 2008 where he has become known for utilising of re-appropriate military fabrics to create garments that are functional, intelligent & meticulously crafted.

All Raeburn’s garments are proudly ‘Remade in England’, which is why he is keen to get Hainsworth fabrics in his garments.
