From The Sheeps Back To Harrods

Sweet Dreams Covered.

The makers of the world’s most luxurious blanket – Hainsworth – is bringing its internationally renowned John Atkinson brand bang up to date with a stunning range of new colourways and finishes in luxury weaves, including Cashmere and the finest Merino wool.

Already gracing beds in royal palaces and homes throughout Europe and the Middle East, the John Atkinson brand (, while continuing to serve the traditional and seasonal market), is now targeting a younger, year-round audience.

Available as blankets and throws, the original, muted colour options are retained and joined by a soft tone selection and a new palette of vibrant, modern shades. Customers are offered a choice of established satin bound edges, or the more contemporary whipped edging.

From raw wool to finished cloth, all Hainsworth blankets and throws are manufactured at the firm’s Spring Valley Mills in West Yorkshire, ensuring complete quality control at every stage of the manufacturing process.  This stamp of quality ensures continued custom from leading retailers, including Harrods, where the unique Cashmere De Luxe Super King Size blanket retails at almost £3000.

But, as managing director and seventh generation at the helm Tom Hainsworth explains: “The new ranges are perfect for younger families interested in interior trends and seeking quality at an affordable price.

“Recent research has shown that, in addition to the total sustainability of wool, its breathable qualities enhance restful sleeping, keeping sleepers warm in winter and cool in summer.
And wool’s global renaissance and many natural attributes, including sound absorption and flame retardant characteristics, make it the perfect choice for interiors.”

The new blanket and throw ranges are perfectly complimented by an equally appealing selection of interior fabrics to meet increased demand for high quality, luxurious fabrics combining visual and tactile beauty with exceptional performance.

Hainsworth works with key players in the interior design market and manufactures the ultimate in desirable fabrics suitable for walling, curtains and light upholstery in domestic and contract sectors. A supplier of interior fabrics to Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, Hainsworth has been awarded the Royal Warrant by Her Majesty The Queen.

Hainsworth Broadcloth benefits from a unique wide width of 220cm, making it suitable for curtains, walling and table coverings. With a slightly heavier weight compared to other Hainsworth interior fabrics, it also offers a beautiful drape and a lustrous face finish. The cloth is also a very durable woven fabric, suitable even for contract upholstery.

Overseas, the company’s continuing links with the Hudson’s Bay Trading Company, via the famous Point Blankets, woven in Pudsey, guaranteed a Hainsworth presence at this year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where the trading company was a major sponsor. And the Yorkshire company that supplied Wellington’s troops prior to Waterloo, continues to supply ceremonial material for events such as The Trooping Of The Colour and the forthcoming Swedish royal wedding.

Outdoors or indoors, Hainsworth would appear to have it covered!
