08.05.2009 - 225 years - A milestone for Hainsworth and the British textile industry; and a new age begun

With a new image, website and brochure you could ask why now, so here is the story.

2008 saw the completion of our 225th year of trading - an incredible feat given the shrinking textile and manufacturing industry in the United Kingdom over the past 50 years and the rising competition from the East. So how have we done it?

At Hainsworth’s heart, a family owned, family run business, is the motivation and passion combined with an unrivalled level of expertise passed down through the centuries. Today, with our UKAS accredited laboratory, ISO 9001 quality assurance mark for design, development and manufacture, awards for innovation, worldwide patents in breakthrough textile technology and a Royal Warrant for supplying H M The Queen, we are as determined and focussed as ever. Determined, to continue building on a unique textile heritage, and focussed on our customers and the ever changing and challenging textile requirements of a modern textile market place.

In early 2008 we decided to engage with an external consultancy, Bonfire Creative Intelligence, and review the company, its product and service offering, our brand and its associated perceptions. The outcome of the review was a recommendation for the consolidation of our 14 operational divisions and a more concerted focus on our innovation credentials.

Realising the benefit in communication this would bring both externally to our customers and internally to our staff, we adopted the recommendations; and the image, brochure and website you are now visiting are the visual outcomes of this review process.

After 225 years of company growth, development, acquisition and now consolidation, Hainsworth is one company with an unquenchable thirst and passion; for the manufacture, development, innovation and conversion of woven textiles.

“The re-brand and restructure is a celebration of all on which the company has been built and shows our commitment and dedication to both our customers and the future,” says Thomas Hainsworth, Managing Director “we are proud of our heritage and all that we have achieved and this development marks both a celebration and a new beginning. Never in our company history has there been such a coordinated attempt in defining and ensuring that we, Hainsworth, are everything our customers and market needs; an innovative and adaptable company always one step ahead of the game.”

With a record turnover and number of orders in 2008 the business is growing strong, and with an increase in exports due to the current economic environment. Opportunities are appearing more readily and there are a number of textile products and applications in development. One of the textile innovations already launched is Hainsworth Coffins. These coffins are environmentally friendly, and sustainable, woollen and cotton coffins developed with a sole UK distributor partnership with JC Atkinson & Son.

“I joined Hainsworth last year as the review started and have seen the process to completion,” says Victoria Mellor, Marketing Manager “the research, restructuring and outcomes of this project have been a long time in development but they had to be right. There is now a refreshed, positive, dynamic and consistent face to Hainsworth, one that reflects and embraces all the achievements to date, and all those yet to come. It has been a great opportunity to be involved with this project and we are all very happy with the outcomes, both structural and visual, and the benefits they will bring to the company and our customers.”
