Gifted fashion student Rosa Pietsch has just graduated with a 1st Class BA Honours degree in Fashion Design with Business Studies, at the University of Brighton. Her final project used Hainsworth overcoating fabric to make these stunning garments. (see right)
Rosa comments “I actually first used Hainsworth fabric in my second year at University and I remembered the high quality of the fabric when it came to designing and making my final collection.
My final project focuses on the concept of preserving the traces of a garment’s production in the final piece of clothing. I was interested in letting the process of cutting and fabric manipulation inform the final outcome. This led me to develop my own pattern cutting techniques by using continuous strips of fabric as a starting point. As the strips loop, layer and fasten together, the traces of the garment’s development are shown in the end result. I used Hainsworth overcoating for a number of my final pieces. After extensive trial and error I found that using a strong, yet flexible fabric that could be cut with a raw edge, without fraying, was the ideal fabric for some of my key pieces. I also found that the weight of the Hainsworth overcoating fabric contributed well to the way the designs hung on the body”.
Rosa finished her degree this summer and is now looking for further experience in fashion and textile design, including internships and independent pieces of work. For more information visit: http://www.rosapietsch.co.uk
